What’s involved?

Scotland’s schools offer pupils the chance to explore a wide range of languages and to study them from rudimentary beginnings to national exam standards.

Most Modern Language teachers deliver lessons in at least two languages other than English. With Cantonese, French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Spanish, Urdu amongst the languages offered in schools, there’s plenty scope to develop pupils’ linguistic abilities.

Modern Language teacher training options

Teacher of modern languages must have a degree in one or two modern languages plus a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). Alternatively, they will have a degree combining professional education with their chosen languages.
